CAN-BIND Reunites in Montreal: Highlights from Our 2024 Scientific Meeting
This November, CAN-BIND hosted its first in-person Scientific Meeting since 2019, marking a pivotal moment for our network and its members. Held in Montreal, the event brought together researchers, trainees, and staff to exchange ideas, showcase groundbreaking research, and collaborate on critical projects in depression care. Early-career researchers also had the opportunity to present their preliminary findings, offering fresh insights into CAN-BIND’s ongoing work.
After years of virtual meetings, the return to in-person gatherings felt especially meaningful. Attendees spoke about how much richer their discussions were when they could meet face-to-face, with in-person interactions fostering deeper connections and sparking more dynamic conversations. These exchanges proved vital for strengthening collaborations and team-building—key components for driving forward the science of depression care. For many of CAN-BIND’s newer team members, the event also provided a unique opportunity to reconnect and solidify relationships that had primarily been maintained virtually over the past few years.
Beyond the scientific discussions, our Knowledge Translation (KT) team also took the gathering as an opportunity to meet and interview staff and trainees at all levels within the program. These interviews helped us showcase the diverse faces and voices of CAN-BIND, highlighting the different roles and perspectives that shape our work. The conversations will also contribute to future KT products, reflecting the wide range of expertise across the organization. As the meeting came to a close, it was clear that the return to in-person gatherings was more than just a successful exchange of ideas. The meeting highlighted the power of collaboration. CAN-BIND’s mission to transform depression care depends on the collective efforts of its passionate and diverse members. The in-person meeting served as a powerful reminder of the value of coming together, sharing knowledge, and planning for the future.
The success of our Annual Scientific Meeting has energized our team and set the stage for an exciting year ahead. With new discoveries, strengthened partnerships, and ongoing progress in depression care, we look forward to what’s to come at CAN-BIND.
