Event Summary: Using Mental Health Apps with Your Patients: A Practical Primer Course

October 21, Nov 11, Dec 09 2020- The Knowledge Translation platform launched this pilot project aimed at educating health care professionals on how to select and use mental health apps and web-apps to facilitate mental health care. We held 3 sessions; the first was a 2-hour webinar focusing on 1- “how to select mental health apps”- using the APA app evaluation model. 2- Live demonstrations of various mental health apps e.g. Moodkit, Moodgym, MoodFx, Headspace, The Michigan Depression Centre Toolkit. One-hour sessions were held in the following 2 months to follow up, troubleshoot and introduce new app demos including MoodGym and MindShift, the Canadian app designed for young people suffering from anxiety. Attendance was capped to 40 health care provider registrants to allow for effective interactivity and because of popular demand we made plans to repeat this course with CME certification. This course was prepared and presented by Dr. Sagar V. Parikh and Dr. Wegdan Rashad Abdelmoemin. See below for some screenshots of the content addressed in the course.
